{"id":2237,"date":"2024-02-02T23:33:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T23:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stevebelsheim.com\/?p=2237"},"modified":"2024-02-02T23:33:08","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T23:33:08","slug":"stage-five-detailed-observation-of-the-text-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stevebelsheim.com\/?p=2237","title":{"rendered":"STAGE FIVE \u2013 DETAILED OBSERVATION OF THE TEXT \u2013 PART 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><u>Reading and Thinking about the Text<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this stage of the Bible study process, the Bible student will need to read, re-read, meditate, <strong><u>THINK<\/u><\/strong>, and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance about the text in a more literal (or formal) translation in an effort to answer or respond to questions that pertain to the text, the sentences, the phrases, and the words.&nbsp; Although over sixty-five more detailed primary questions are in the expanded PDF version (link:&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/stevebelsheim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/STAGE-FIVE-PDF-VErsion-Detailed-Analysis-Part-1-Rev-1.pdf\">https:\/\/stevebelsheim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/STAGE-FIVE-PDF-VErsion-Detailed-Analysis-Part-1-Rev-1.pdf<\/a> &nbsp;), a sampling of the questions are below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>A Sampling of Primary Questions about the Text<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> In order to be understandable, does the text have a presupposition (i. e, requires an antecedent in logic or fact)?&nbsp; If so, identify the presupposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does the text have major parts?&nbsp; If so, identify the major parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Do any of the major parts of the text have any smaller parts (i.e., subparts)? If so, identify the subparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Describe the relationships between the major parts and subparts?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Are there patterns between major parts and the subparts?&nbsp; If so, describe these patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>A Sampling of Primary Questions to Consider about the Sentences<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Identify the sentences in the text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> OPTIONAL: Identify the Greek sentences for NT texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> How closely tied together are the sentences?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does the sentence use connectors (e.g., \u201cand\u201d)?&nbsp; If so, how are they used?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does each sentence build on one another?&nbsp; If so, does it do so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does the sentence form a part of an argument?&nbsp; If so, what is the argument?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>A Sampling of Primary Questions to Consider about the Phrases<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Identify the prepositional phrases (Greek or English).&nbsp; What does each propositional phrase modify?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> What is the point of the phrase?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Is the phrase qualified?&nbsp; If so, how is it qualified?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Is there anything \u201cstriking\u201d about the phrase?&nbsp; If so, how is it striking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does the phrase refer to salvation?&nbsp; If so, how does it do so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does the phrase refer to repentance?&nbsp; If so, how does it do so?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>A Sampling of Primary Questions to Consider about the Words<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Does the word contain a message?&nbsp; Is, describe the message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Is the translation of the original word crucial?&nbsp; If so, describe how the translation is crucial.&nbsp; Please note that details about how to conduct a word study are in a later stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Are any of the words names or titles?&nbsp; If so, what are they?&nbsp; Describe any significance they have in this Bible study exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Is there a usage of a metaphor?
