For example, an August 31, 2021 survey from Arizona Christian University reveals that 72% of persons who call themselves a \u201cChristian\u201d believe that people are basically good, and 58% believe that if someone does enough good works, they will get to heaven.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This theology that good works can save a person is not biblical.&nbsp; Tragically, anyone who relies on their good works to get to heaven travels on the road to hell.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>ONLY JESUS SAVES<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What Jesus did on the cross is what saves a person.&nbsp; The Apostle Paul made it clear when he wrote 1 Corinthians 15:3\u20134 (NLT):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><sup>3<\/sup> I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. <sup>4<\/sup> He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><u>A BRIEF LOOK AT 1 CORINTHIANS 15:3-4<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s take a brief look at verses 3-4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrase \u201cChrist died for our sins\u201d contains more than meets the eye.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The title \u201cChrist\u201d refers to Jesus Christ who is God the Father\u2019s only unique Son.&nbsp; While retaining His deity, He became a man in Jesus and lived a perfect life so that He would be the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expression \u201cdied for our sins\u201d reveals that all of mankind is sinful and in need of the Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; Jesus Christ took the sins of mankind upon Himself so that through His sacrificial death on the cross a person has forgiveness of all their sins (past, present, and future) available to them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrase \u201cjust as the Scriptures said\u201d refers to the Old Testament prophesies about Jesus.&nbsp; In this case, one applicable passage is Isaiah 53:4\u20136 (NLT):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><sup>4<\/sup> Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! <sup>5<\/sup> But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. <sup>6<\/sup> All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God\u2019s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrase Jesus \u201cwas raised from the dead on the third day\u201d refers to Jesus\u2019 physical bodily resurrection.&nbsp; Jesus\u2019 resurrection is a historical fact provable using the biblical accounts merely as uninspired ancient evidence and other non-biblical ancient documents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The phrase \u201cjust as the Scriptures said\u201d refers to Old Testament prophesies such as Psalm 16:10 (NLT) [emphasis added]:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><sup>10<\/sup> For you will not leave my soul among the dead <strong><u>or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus\u2019 resurrection proves that His sacrifice on the cross was the satisfactory payment for sin in the eyes of God the Father.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The physical death and physical bodily resurrection from the dead made Jesus Christ\u2019s sacrifice on the cross effective for the salvation of mankind.&nbsp; A person\u2019s good works have nothing to do with \u201cmaking it to heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think that your works (including water baptism by immersion) played any part whatsoever in your salvation you need to reexamine your salvation per 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NET):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><sup>5<\/sup> Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you\u2014unless, indeed, you fail the test!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>You may find that you are not saved, because you have never repented of your sins and trusted alone in what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you discover you are not saved, please skip to near the end of this article.&nbsp; Then, please (1) read through \u201cGod\u2019s Plan of Salvation\u201d so you can understand what God did for you through His only unique Son, Jesus Christ, and (2), from the bottom of your heart, pray the \u201cSinner\u2019s Prayer\u201d meaning every word. If you do, you will be reconciled to God \u2013 saved &#8211; through Jesus Christ.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon your salvation, you must engage in daily Bible reading and prayer.&nbsp; Also, you must find a spiritually solid Bible-believing church that (1) teaches that the sixty-six books of the Bible are the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, (2) believes in the doctrine of the Trinity, which means that there is one God who eternally exists as three distinct Persons \u2014 the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit \u2013 and each Person is fully God, and (3) teaches that salvation is by grace through faith and not by works (e.g., water baptism of any sort).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please do not make the mistake of thinking that once you become a Christian, your life will become easy.&nbsp; Most likely, it will become more difficult.&nbsp; God\u2019s blessing of salvation and the difficulties of life are not mutually exclusive.&nbsp; Jesus told His disciples, \u201cIf the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.\u201d John 15:18 (NLT).&nbsp; Always keep in mind that you have an eternal home in heaven waiting for you per John 14:2\u20134 (NLT),<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><sup>2<\/sup> There is more than enough room in my Father\u2019s home.
